Corporate institutions continue to extend help to Government health facilities designated to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus in Ghana.
One of such institutions is the Asante Professionals Club (APC) which has supported the Kumasi South Hospital with some essential medical items as part of concerted efforts to save lives in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Hospital is one of the key health facilities designated to handle COVID-19 cases in the Ashanti Region.
Members of the group donated 300 pieces of disposable gowns, 500 pieces of hand gloves, 20 cartons of gel hand sanitizers, and additional 20 cartons of liquid hand sanitizers.
The donation, according to the group, was part of efforts to motivate frontline health workers in the Region towards COVID-19 response and also equip the capacity of the facility to deal with COVID-19 cases.
There are currently 161COVID-19 cases in Ghana.
President of the APC, Prince Adusei Opoku, presenting the items, stressed the need for private institutions and individuals to complement Government’s efforts in fighting against the pandemic.
He also indicated that the group’s commitment to support the well-being of people living in the region mobilized to contribute towards efforts to combat the virus.
“With this facility being a holding centre for cases in the Ashanti Region, we felt that there would be a lot of need for some of these items, hence the gesture to support the fight against COVID-19,” he added
Mr. Adusei Opoku further said while adhering to Government’s directive on the partial lockdown, members of the Club who are spread across the United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), Accra, and Kumasi remained resolute in supporting the nation to overcome in these trying moments.
Medical Director at the Kumasi South Hospital, Dr. Kwame Ofori Boadu, who received the items, on behalf of the Director-General of Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Regional Health Directorate showed appreciation for the gesture.
He noted that despite the government’s effort, it is also encouraging to receive support from corporate institutions to enable health workers to step up their medical response towards overcoming the virus.
He urged other benevolent organizations and individuals to support health facilities in the region and the country to enable the nation overcome the pandemic.
